The Joint Base Andrews Library held a pirate themed story time Aug. 31, for children and parents.

“Pirates Love Underpants” by Claire Freedman and Ben Cort was one of several pirate themed children’s books read during story time.

The event also involved singing and dancing between book changes followed by children playing with crafts and decorating little paper treasure chests.

A total of 59 people attended the event.

“The kids not only enjoy the story time, but the parents do too,” said Cheryl Britton, 11th Force Support Squadron supervisor librarian. “The parents make friends during story time. The parents come a part of the community.”

Story time at the Library is held every Monday at 5:30 p.m. and every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

In addition to story time, many free educational events for JBA members are scheduled for September. A Literacy Day read-in on Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. and a Videogame Club every first and third Saturday of the month from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m.

“One of our strategic plans at the library is to support the military members and their dependents, especially when military members are deployed and working,” said Katie Loveless, 11th Force Support Squadron senior library technician. “We give the military families the opportunity to get involved in enriching activities on base and build a sense of community.”
