Families of deployed service members gathered for a free dinner and premiere of Ice Age: Collision Course at Marine Corps Air Station New River movie theater, Sept. 1.
The event gave parents a relief from the struggles of parenting alone while bringing together families who are all in similar situations.
"We have Deployed Spouses’ dinner," said Betty Joe Waite, the event organizer. "Any spouse whose significant other is deployed, they come for dinner the last Thursday of each month. It’s their night to relax, rejuvenate and their night to be specially treated."
The concessions were open and free to the patrons for any snacks or sweets they wanted as the theater seats quickly filled up.
"This is very rewarding for the families," said Darlene Keren, event organizer. "This is a great opportunity for you families to bond with other local families going through a similar situation such as their loved one being deployed."
Deployed Spouses night is held the last Thursday of every month.
