The Marine Corps announces Marine Week to be held in Nashville

Brigadier Gen. Robert Castellvi, the deputy commanding general of II Marine Expeditionary Force, announced at a press conference Aug. 10 the Marine Corps will hold its annual Marine Week in Nashville, Tenn.
Castellvi said Marine Week is an opportunity to share the Marine Corps' history, heritage and traditions with the people of Nashville.
"For the Marine Corps, holding the Marine Week in Nashville allows us to further strengthen the positive relationship between Marines and the people of Tennessee," said Castellvi. "We created Marine Week to connect with diverse communities throughout the country and show our appreciation for their unwavering support, while also giving us an opportunity to demonstrate why the Marine Corps is America's expeditionary force in readiness."
Marine Week is the largest Marine Corps community outreach program and is designed to connect Marines with the communities they serve. This year’s event will be held Sept. 7-11 in downtown Nashville and surrounding Davidson County.
Mayor Megan Barry, the seventh mayor of the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County, said she is looking forward to hosting Marine Week. Barry’s father, Ken, served in the Marine Corps from 1961 to 1965.
Barry said she has admiration for what the Marines do to protect our nation.
"I know that the Marine Corps builds honorable citizens who are trained to fight in defense of our freedom, and with the instability all around our world, the Marine Corps remains forward deployed and ready to respond to crises," Barry said.
More than 700 Marines from units within II Marine Expeditionary Force will participate in the weeklong event. The Marine Corps will host more than 80 free events which will include community service projects, aircraft and equipment demonstrations, and static displays.
