(TAPA TRAINING AREA, Estonia) - Soldiers from Company A, 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division trained on area security operations at Tapa Training Area, Estonia August 9.

Area security operations include tasks like running a traffic control point, establishing and maintaining blocking positions and securing civilians on the battlefield.

U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Clark Kerner, a tank platoon leader for Co. A, 3rd Bn., 69th Arm. Rgmt., said the training gave them the opportunity to work on certain tasks they had yet to train on.

“This is our first time training on TCPs,” said Kerner. “We went through the motions to learn what would work based off our standing operating procedures.”

Kerner said the realistic training let the Soldiers understand what they would have to do in a real-life situation.

“Though this is training, we're training for the real world,” said Kerner. “I want my Soldiers to continue taking this training seriously because you never know when or what we might be doing.”

Sgt. Willis Vocke, a tanker with Co. A, 3rd Bn., 69th Arm. Rgmt., said that Soldiers continue to build their readiness and prepare for whatever mission they may be tasked with.

“Overall the training went well,” said Vocke. “The Soldiers understand how to set-up a TCP and do it effectively."

Soldiers from 3rd Bn., 69th Arm. Rgmt. are currently in Estonia as a part of Operation Atlantic Resolve, a demonstration of continued U.S. commitment to collective security through a series of actions designed to reassure NATO allies and partners of America's dedication to enduring peace and stability in the region.
