The United States Army Pacific Theatre Security Cooperation Program, “Tiger Balm”, is a U.S. Army Pacific-sponsored exercise conducted annually since 1981 with the Singapore Armed Forces to enhance regional security, interoperability, and country-to- country military relationships.
Soldiers of Singapore’s 9th Division, the Hawaii Army National Guard 29th Infantry Brigade Combat Team and the U.S. Army 25th Infantry Division participated in the exercise held from July 18-30.
During the ceremony, Singapore's 6th Division Commander Brig. Gen. Boon Keat Chua stressed the importance of participating in Tiger Balm.
“It’s not easy to have 36 consecutive years of exercises between two countries,” Chua said.
“It is extremely important for likeminded countries to train together and develop understanding in these times so that we can operate effectively together when the need arises.”
“It is tradition for Tiger Balm to build upon the success of previous years’ exercises, and this year was no exception,” Maj. Gen. Charles A. Flynn, Division Commander of the 25th Infantry Division, said, reflecting on past decades.
Chua ended the ceremony by reinforcing the bonds between the two countries.
“The trust in each other’s professionalism allowed us to push the training envelope and achieve our first [live maneuver exercise]. The friendship must extend beyond just the exercise itself so we should cherish the time that we are here today spending with our friends from America.”
