    Instructor reaches blue moon milestone

SHEPPARD AIR FORCE BASE, TX, UNITED STATES

Story by Senior Airman Kyle Gese

    82nd Training Wing

She completed her Community College of the Air Force Instructor Certification category I, II and III, which is given at the 1,000, 2,000, and 3,000 instructional hour mile-mark. After category III, they stop counting; a testament, Dr. Lynn List said, of her impressive achievement.

In an interview with Dr. List, a long-time friend, colleague and now 82nd Training Wing director of training operations, she spoke about just how significant Bryant’s contributions to the Wing really are.

“Not many military instructors reach the category III, milestone,” said Dr. List. “It’s a little more common for civilian instructors to reach three thousand hours, but most people look for promotions, or other career advancements and never make it as far as Mrs. Bryant. She devotes her life to teaching and is very passionate about being in the classroom. She has had the same opportunities as me to advance, but she just simply loves to teach. Mrs. Bryant is one of the most humble people I’ve met,” she said. “If you ask her about it, she’ll tell you it is no big deal and there are so many other people on the base with the same accomplishment, but that’s simply just not the case.”

Recently, Bryant reached a new milestone – logging more than 10,000 hours of teaching with FACD. Their mission supports three training groups and nine training squadrons covering 1,006 courses at 54 locations worldwide and 60,400 students graduate annually from all branches of the service, to include international students. Their vision is to develop superior servant warriors to support, standardize and train the world’s greatest Air Force.

Bryant is qualified to teach a variety of courses with FACD such as technical writer; training development; training management; analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation; and the basic instructor course. She has subject matter tested 79 times since 2005, and earned the awards, master instructor recognition, Instructor of the Quarter, three times; Civilian of the Quarter, Category II; and Civilian Instructor of the Year 2014.

“I really enjoy teaching,” Bryant said. “I’ll be up here until I die … I’d like to teach here as long as I can, it keeps me young and keeps me engaged. I like talking to the students because you learn things from them … I like the interaction, being engaged and learning from the other folks.”

“As far as those hours are concerned, whenever I’ve taught I’ve never considered ‘well, am I at 900 hours or 800 hours,’” she said. “I never think about how many hours I’ve taught; I think of the years I’ve taught … 10,000 hours is great, but if I could reach one million teaching hours, that would be awesome.”

According to the technical training management system of record, in the 15 years Bryant has been teaching the basic instructor course, more than 36,000 students have graduated the course. Today, Bryant continues to teach with FACD providing highly-trained and qualified instructors for the United States Air Force.
