New sheriff in town for Recruiting Station Frederick

After serving 3 years as the recruiting station’s commanding officer, Maj. Paul B. Bock handed over responsibilities to the new RS commanding officer, Maj. Luke A. Sauber.
“Leaving here is bittersweet,” said Bock. “The Marines have performed like the champions they are, and I’m going to miss them. I appreciate all the hard work they’ve done. It’s important for the Marine Corps and our nation.”
Bock, from Francestown, New Hampshire, enlisted in the Marine Corps November 1990. He attended the School of Infantry at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where he received the mortarman military occupational specialty.
In January 2012, Bock assumed the duties of the battalion operations officer and subsequently deployed with 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom 12.1. In June of that year, he was promoted to the rank of major. The following year, he took over as the commanding officer of the recruiting station.
Bock achieved great success while serving as the commanding officer, leading his team of Marines to win the 2015 4th Marine Corps District Commanding Officer’s Cup. The win signifies that the recruiting station was the best compared to several others in the entire district.
“I know the recruiting station is in good hands with Maj. Sauber here,” said Bock.
Sauber, from Memphis, Tennessee, commissioned via the Officer Candidate Course in March 2004. He attended The Basic School Class 3-04 and was appointed as a logistics officer.
In 2012, he was assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 2, 2nd Marine Logistics Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, serving as the commander of Headquarters and Service Company. During this time, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
In the short time that Sauber worked with Bock, he could instantly tell the impact which the former commanding officer made at the recruiting station.
“He is an outstanding Marine Officer who genuinely cares for every Marine he works with,” said Sauber. “Those conditions undoubtedly set the stage for much of the success RS Frederick has experienced in recent years.”
Sauber, with his wife and three kids, look forward to getting to know the Marines, their families, and working together to continue the success of the recruiting station.
“I expect a challenging tour that will require me to work every day for the Marines of RS Frederick to help the Marine Corps meet its accession mission. I know that there are outstanding Marines in this command who will welcome my family to their team,” said Sauber.
Bock, with the support of his wife and two sons, will attend the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Virginia.
