Gen. Robin Rand, Air Force Global Strike Command commander, and his wife Kim, visited here during Fort D.A. Russell Days and Cheyenne Frontier Days.

In addition to participating in the CFD festivities, the general and his wife spent time with Airmen and families from the Mighty Ninety and 20th Air Force.

Rand shared a breakfast with junior enlisted Airmen at the base’s dining facility, giving words of wisdom to the Air Force’s future leaders.

“The job you were given, you were given for a reason,” Rand said. “We send you where we need you and you can make a difference wherever you are. The strength of our Air Force is the quality of our Airmen and our greatness comes from the fact that, this is a calling, not a job.”

Later that day, Rand spoke at an Enlisted Professional Development lunch to a room of more than 300 Airmen, who listened as he spoke about the importance of the core values and various experiences in his Air Force career.

“It was really amazing to meet someone who has been in the Air Force for as long as General Rand and who helped change and foster our Air Force to make it the Air Force it is today,” said Airman 1st Class Christopher Wetherholt, 90th Operations Support Squadron Aviation Resource Management. “If you just follow the core values they will lead you to where you need to be in your career. We have to do our best, always.”

Mrs. Rand met with Key Spouses around the base and discussed the importance of the program they lead.

“You all have good hearts, tender hearts,” she said. “It’s so important for you to help the new spouses and be there for the families. This is not a cookie cutter program. I think that you all go outside the box and think for yourself and find what’s best for your squadron and your group.”

The Rands spoke with many people from across the base community, leaving a lasting impression of the importance of the core values.

“The secret to success is easy,” Rand said. “Be a person of integrity, service before self and try to be excellent in everything you do.”

As the AFGSC commander, Rand is responsible for the nation’s three ICBM wings, the Air Force’s entire bomber force and operational and maintenance support to organizations within the nuclear enterprise, and heavily relies on Airmen conducting the ICBM mission to ensure they are striving for excellence daily.

“I am really proud of this wing,” Rand said. “Every single one of you…you are the ones that make the enemy sleep with one eye open. I want you to know that, and to know that what the 90th Missile Wing does is critical to the security of this nation."
