KABUL, Afghanistan – Lt. Col. Michael Hreczkosij assumed command of the 538th Air Expeditionary Advisory Squadron in a ceremony officiated by Col. Troy Henderson, 438th Air Expeditionary Advisory Group commander, July 21, 2016.

Hreczkosij arrived from the 6th Special Operations Squadron, Duke Field, Fla., where his unit is responsible for combat air advising to partner nation special operation aviation forces worldwide.

“I am humbled and honored to be selected to lead this amazing (total force integration) team of active duty, Reservists and Guardsmen,” said Hreczkosij. “I strongly believe in the air advisor mission, the Afghan air force, and the Airmen of the 538th AEAS, and will do everything I can to enable their success.”

The 538th AEAS is part of the 438th Air Expeditionary Wing, Train, Advise, Assist Command – Air (TAAC-Air). As air advisors, the U.S. Airmen in the group train the AAF on C-130H aircraft. The AAF has four C-130s.

Hreczkosij has about 15 advisors under his command, and they work shoulder to shoulder with their Afghan counterparts daily.

“We are looking to further strengthen the remarkable relationship between the Afghan, U.S., and coalition air forces, continue to advise and learn from our mobility fixed wing Afghan partners, and to assist with the development of new techniques and capabilities with the C-130 and C-208 aircraft,” said Hreczkosij.

Following the Assumption of Command ceremony, the unit hosted a barbecue for TAAC-Air and AAF members in attendance.
