Chemical Biological Incident Response Force (CBIRF)

NAVAL SUPPORT FACILITY INDIAN HEAD, Md. – Capt. Robert G. Ukrainec assumed command of Headquarters and Service Company, Chemical Biological Incident Response Force, CBIRF, from Capt. Lucas H. Forcella during a change of command ceremony aboard Naval Support Facility Indian Head, Md., July 13, 2016.

Forcella, a native of Morris, Minn., received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for service while serving as intelligence officer and company commander.
During his remarks, Forcella expressed a word of thanks to his family for support while at CBIRF.

“There’s been many thankless late nights that I’ve come home and dinner is cold on the table because [my wife] has been waiting for me to get back,” said Forcella. “If you haven’t done so, please thank your spouse and thank your family. Thank those that support you because they don’t hear it often enough.”

He continued saying that serving as a company commander has been a fulfilling experience.

“It has been a tremendous honor to command the company and being able to support [the company] and CBIRF as we ultimately pursue what is a very critical and very unique mission,” said Forcella.

Ukrainec, a Burnsville, Minn., native, served as the H&s executive officer prior to taking command of the company. He started his remarks by thanking the CBIRF commanding officer for this opportunity to lead Marines.

“I’m going to do everything I can to support [the commanding officer] and this battalion,” said Ukrainec. “Captain Forcella has done a lot, and I think we can take it further and make sure that we are supporting the rest of the battalion.

“I look forward to taking command of this company.”

When directed, CBIRF forward-deploys and/or responds with minimal warning to a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or high-yield explosive (CBRNE) threat or event in order to assist local, state, or federal agencies and the geographic combatant commanders in the conduct of CBRNE response or consequence management operations, providing capabilities for command and control; agent detection and identification; search, rescue, and decontamination; and emergency medical care for contaminated personnel.
