FORT STEWART, Ga. – Soldiers of, 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division departed Fort Stewart, Georgia July 7 for Senegal to attend African Readiness Training 16 with Senegalese Soldiers.

Soldiers of 1-30th Inf. will enhance the U.S. relationship with their Senegalese partners through combined training and multi-level live-fire exercises.

“The importance of this mission is to build partner capacity between the United States and the Senegalese,” said Cpt. Andrew Murphree, commander of B Co., 1-30th Inf. “We are hoping that this is successful and that we could do more comprehensive training exercises with our [partners].”

Soldiers of 1-30th will combine forces with the Senegalese Army to conduct different training situations, from team to company size formations of Soldiers as the training progresses.

“There are going to be a lot of situational and live fire exercises and urban operations,” said Murphree.

Leaders of 1-30th Inf. are excited for the opportunity to train with and learn from the Senegalese forces.

“To train up for this event, our platoon has conducted weapons qualifications and preventive maintenance inspections,” said Staff Sgt. Jesse Wallace, a platoon sergeant for B Co. “Leaders have made it a priority to learn as much as possible about Senegal in addition to the country briefs.”

“For this mission, I'm looking forward to partnering together with a foreign army in live-fire scenarios,” said Wallace.

“This was a task we were assigned long ago, we have been waiting to do this mission, we are pretty excited,” said Murphree.
