ADAZI, Latvia (July 11, 2016) – Many trucks, many soldiers, and many things to do. But the trucks don’t roll until they’ve been checked. The soldiers from 515th Transportation Co. have a very important job to do today.

Today, U.S. Army Spc. Thurman Thompson, native of Wildwood, NJ, a Motor Transport Operator assigned to 515th Transportation Co., 39th Transportation Battalion, performed Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services (PMCS) on an M1088 Truck Tractor and a pair of M969 Semi-Trailer Refuelers.

A PMCS is usually conducted once a week and prior to all missions. During a PMCS there are many things to be checked. Even little things can make a vehicle non-mission capable.

“It is important to conduct a PMCS when preparing for a mission because it ensures mission readiness and effectiveness. It is very important to take your time while conducting a PMCS and look over the equipment to try and identify any faults,” said Sgt. Oscar Jasso, a native of Dallas, TX, another Motor Transport Operator assigned to 515th Transportation Co., “We are always checking our equipment before, during, and after to ensure no faults have happened from the previous time the equipment was checked.”

“It is a good feeling knowing that my daily missions through the Baltic Nations has such a huge impact,” Thompson said as he was checking the engine components for damage, “It gives me a great sense of pride and honor knowing that what my unit does supports such a large operation.”

The Soldiers of 515th Transport Co. are providing fuel for other U.S. units so they can train with their Baltic allies in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, a multi-national operation being conducted in Europe to demonstrate U.S. commitment to the collective security of NATO and dedication to enduring peace and stability in the region.
