The NATO ROLE III MMU Oscar Rotation has been in command of the Kandahar Airfield Role III Multinational Medical Unit since 1 April 2016. The 83 IA and GSA sailors, coming from 25 different parent commands, that are currently staffing the hospital began preparing in January 2016. Pre-deployment training include time spent at the Navy Trauma Training Center located at LA County Hospital in Los Angeles California, The Naval Expeditionary Medical Training Institute at Camp Pendleton, and Navy Individual Augmentee Combat Training at Ft. Jackson South Carolina

3 July 2016 marked the half way point for the Oscar rotation, with approximately 100 days left on their tour. At the mid point mark, the Oscar rotation has cared for approximately 1,200 acute care patients. On July 3, 2016 the half way point of the tour was celebrated with an American backyard barbeque as well as the awarding of the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and "Sand Sailor" certificates.
