Camp Casey, South Korea – An afternoon away from the office and a good game of golf is a very effective means to boost morale and strengthen friendships between members of two different organizations.

Soldiers of 210th Field Artillery Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division / ROK-U.S. Combined Division, and members of the Association of the U.S. Army (Dongducheon) competed in the fourth annual U.S. – AUSA golf tournament, June 3, at the Indianhead Golf Course at Camp Casey, South Korea.

The Association of the U.S. Army hosted the 18-hole tournament with total of 54 golfers playing for the highest individual scores. The golfers from ‘Thunder’ brigade were paired with members from AUSA in order to provide opportunities for both parties to communicate and acquaint themselves through a shared passion for golf.

“I am very glad to host this event for all the golfers who attended,” said Yim, Ki-sun, the President of Association of the U.S. Army. “We want to show our appreciation towards the Soldiers of 210th FA Bde., and hope we build a stronger bond with each other through this event.”

Even though the event was hosted by AUSA, the Soldiers of the ‘Thunder Brigade’ shared the same enthusiasm.

“I believe this event is outstanding, and we’ve done many events together so far. This event shows how much the citizens of Dongducheon [AUSA] chapter care about the U.S. Soldiers,” said Maj. Gary Carty, a Kansas City, Missouri native, and Simulations Officer assigned to the 210th FA Bde., 2nd Inf. Div. “They have always been willing to work with us, so I truly think we as Soldiers should also be willing to work with the community.”

After completing all 18 holes in the golf tournament, the scorecards of the golfers were collected and the results were evaluated to determine the winners. Following the fellowship dinner, the host announced the winners to the audience. The prizes of the tournament were awarded to first, second, and third place as well as the golfers with the ‘Longest Range’, and those who came ‘Nearest to Pin’.

“I think this is a wonderful opportunity. The team building with our neighbors and building the comradery we need in this country is a beautiful thing,” Maj. Marcus Davis, a Douglas, Georgia native assigned as a Human Resources Officer of 210th FA Bde., 2nd Inf. Div.
“The more we host events like this, the more we know each other,” added Davis. “I think we need to become friends, learn and respect each other’s cultures so we can continue to have this lasting relationship.”
