Fort A.P. Hill, Va. – June 11 marked the start of the 13th annual U.S. Army Reserve Quartermaster Liquid Logistics Exercise here.
QLLEX consists of Soldiers from five posts: Fort A.P. Hill; Fort Bragg, N.C.; Fort Gordon, Ga.; Fort Lewis, Wash.; and Fort Huachuca, Ariz. Operations include disaster training such as providing clean water and fuel in an emergency situation.
“This is the one of the only military missions that has a direct, immediate impact on civilian populations,” stated Lt. Col Eric D. Kelley, battalion commander of the 327th Quartermaster Battalion headquartered in Williamsport, Pa.
This exercise has a combined force of nearly 3,200 Soldiers, over 700 of which are at Fort A.P. Hill, which is the main hub of the operations. Two of the major operations conducted at Fort A.P. Hill are water purification and fuel distribution.
“This is where the Tactical Operations Command is located,” Kelley added. “It’s where we will be receiving the missions, where we will share with subordinate leaders what their part of the mission is, and oversee how they will execute the mission and deploy their assets to our real world customers.”
The four major operating elements at A. P. Hill are the 475th Quartermaster Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 327th Quartermaster Battalion, 719th Movement Control Battalion, and 363rd Quartermaster Battalion.
“The key to success of this mission is to provide on time support, especially in the area of petroleum, to ensure we have happy, satisfied customers,” says Kelley, a Silver Spring, Md., resident.
Customers in Virginia who will be supplied with water and fuel are Quantico Marine Base, Fort A.P. Hill, Fort Lee, Fort Pickett, Fort Belvoir, and Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
QLLEX 2016 will last from June 11th to June 24th.
