NBK to support regional earthquake, tsunami exercise

Emergency responders and personnel from various federal, state, and local agencies across the northwest will test their preparedness June 7-14. This drill named Cascadia Rising is coordinated by the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA). The scenario is a 9.0-magnitude earthquake along the Cascadia Subduction Zone. Through their participation, these agencies aim to learn lessons that will help them succeed in helping their communities should the unthinkable occur.

Naval Base Kitsap

Naval Base Kitsap (NBK) and some of its tenant commands will join forces with a multitude of local civil service agencies to support the largest regional earthquake and tsunami exercise, Cascadia Rising June 7 – 14.

The goal of the Federal Emergency Management Administration conducted exercise is to allow federal, state, tribal, and local agencies to fine tune a response to the first four days of a simulated, 9.0-magnitude Cascadia Subduction Zone earthquake and tsunami disaster.

NBK Bremerton and Bangor area residents may see increased activity during normal business hours due to the exercise. Regular Navy operations will not be affected.
