“Congress asked the military service’s Surgeons General to develop a comprehensive plan to address acute and chronic pain for military service members, their families and retirees,” said retired Lt. Col. Ronald White, M.D., 60th Surgical Operations Squadron, Anesthesia Pain Clinic chief. “As of April 6, David Grant Medical Center, the flagship of Air Force medicine, has its first subspecialty pain medicine service, which will focus on improving quality of life and function of beneficiaries.”

To date, the Anesthesia Pain Clinic has seen more than 100 patients.
“We offer the full gamut of treatments for all age groups with acute and chronic pain,” Dr. White said.

The Anesthesia Pain Service is a subspecialty consult service. Therefore, to be treated by this service, beneficiaries will need a consultation request from a physical or occupational therapist, primary care provider, behavioral health provider or surgeon.

“The patient will receive a comprehensive evaluation, a thorough review of their medical history, a head-to-toe physical exam and a review of pertinent X-rays and MRIs,” Dr. White said. “Then a treatment plan will be developed using a multimodal approach including a vast array of state of the art interventional therapies, nutrition counseling, physical therapy, chiropractic medicine and acupuncture.”

The clinic’s focus is on chronic pain conditions such as spinal pain, joint-related conditions, myofascial pain, opioid-related disorders, acute pain, cancer pain and headaches. Dr. White also has experience in subspecialties, including new and innovative therapies like “Stellate Ganglion Blocks” for refractory post-traumatic stress disorder.

"DGMC especially cares about our patients who are in pain and we are excited to open this new integrated clinic,” said Col. Rawson Wood, 60th Medical Group commander. “We welcome Dr. White and his team of compassionate medics as they care for our Airmen, their families and our community."

The Anesthesia Pain Clinic, located on 3 West, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Once a referral is submitted, call Referral Management at 707-423-7641 option 4, then option 1 to schedule your pain consultation. For more information, call the Anesthesia Pain Clinic at 707- 423-3229.
