Command of the NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit was changed over on April 1, 2016 at a formal ceremony. The Kandahar Role 3 MMU is one of CENTCOM’s largest and most capable forward operating combat hospitals and has been under the command of US Naval Captain Gayle Shaffer since October of 2015. During Captain Shaffer’s rotation as commanding officer, designated November rotation, over 90 operating room procedures were performed on critically injured patients in addition to 2,710 overall patient’s cared for. Captain Robert Fry will take over command of the NATO Role 3 Hospital with Captain Christopher Landes serving as Executive Officer, and Command Senior Chief Troy Brown serving as the Senior Enlisted Leader of the Hospital. Captain Angela Earley will serve as Chief of Trauma. The new rotation, designated Oscar, is made up of Individual Augmentee (IA) and Global War on Terrorism Support (GSA) sailors from 25 different parent commands.
