Two earn training center's initial quarterly awards

MCGHEE TYSON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Tenn. – The Commander, I.G. Brown Training and Education Center announced recently the Outstanding Senior NCO and NCO of the Quarter, January to March 2016.

"It is my distinct pleasure to announce Tech. Sgt. Joseph Hunter and Master Sgt. Jerry Harlan as our first quarter award winners..," said Col. Kevin Donovan, commander, in an email.

Harlan is the TEC's photojournalist assigned to the Media and Engagement Division.

Officials said that he facilitated the inter-office moves for four Airman in the Professional and Continuing Education section. He also shot and captioned 41 flight photos and 66 graduation photos. He responded as alert photographer for the Patriot Hall fire damage and delivered essential investigation photography to responders. He coordinated the buy and installment of an auto portraiture backdrop system, which increased official photo quality and compliance. Additionally, he completed the Personal Fitness Trainer Certification course at the University of Tennessee to help increase staff fitness, among several other accomplishments.

In the community, Harlan ran the Knoxville Covenant Health Marathon team relay, fulfilling a personal fitness goal that helped place the TEC third in the overall Small Team Challenge. He also coached a youth shooting team in pistol safety.

Hunter is an enlisted professional military education instructor assigned to the Chief Master Sergeant Paul H. Lankford EPME Center.

Among Hunter's accomplishments, officials noted that he finalized the student instruction action list, evaluated 192 curriculum hours and smoothed the path for Community College of the Air Force accreditation. He reorganized 52 lessons in the NCO academy and Airman leadership school student lesson guide. He assisted in the production of 27 academic videos, delivered curriculum and operated the teleprompter, which generated 6.75 hours of blended learning course content, among several other accomplishments. Additionally, he completed an on-camera instructor course as well as completed three semester hours toward his public administration master's degree with a 4.0 GPA that made the dean's list.

In the community, Hunter lead a prison book drive that helped inventory and transport more than 200 books to 46 inmates. He also dedicated eight hours to the Knox County Library and joined a community trail cleanup.

The awardees get their photos displayed in Patriot Hall's main lobby, and they receive a special plaque, a time off and parking award, and are applauded by their peers at the next commander's call assembly.
