    HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. (May 25, 2016) – Old Hickory Dam is offering free public tours of the powerhouse 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25, and 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Old Hickory Dam is located at river mile 216.2, about 25 miles upstream of Nashville, Tenn. Rising 98 feet above the streambed, the combination earthen-fill and concrete-gravity dam is 3,750 feet long with a hydroelectric power generating plant. The plant has four 25 megawatt hydropower units that produce 880,439,923 kilowatt hours annually.

    Approximately one and a half hours in length, the tour will begin at the Left Bank Parking Lot next to the hydropower facility. After guest check in and a brief introduction, guests will walk to the powerhouse. Guiding guests through the facilities, Corps of Engineers personnel and volunteers will provide information about Old Hickory Lake’s unique history, project purposes, recreational opportunities, fish and wildlife benefits, as well as, an up-close look of the dam and powerhouse facilities.

    Tour participants must register for the tours at least a week and a half (eight business days) prior to the desired tour date. To request a registration form via e-mail please call the Old Hickory Lake Resource Manager’s Office at 615-822-4846 or 615-847-2395.
