New AMC Cheif makes stop at Travis

    TRAVIS AFB, CA, UNITED STATES

    01.29.2016

Story by Senior Airman Nicole Leidholm

60th Air Mobility Wing Public Affairs

On Jan. 21, Frey spent the morning in the air with a class of first term Airman in a KC-10 Extender, where she talked with the new Airmen and learn about Travis’ refueling mission. The KC-10 made a stop at the Amedee Army Airfied, Nevada where Airmen from the 621st Contingency Response Wing offloaded cargo.
“Seeing the AMC Airmen in action, they all have pride in what they do,” Frey said. “I don’t want to know about just the active duty or Reserves because it’s all Team Travis who organize, train and equip.”
Following her flight, Frey visited the aerial port squadron and logistics readiness squadron to learn about the distinct missions at Travis. She returned later that night to visit with Airmen from the operation support squadron on night shift.
“I want the Airmen to know what it means to be an Airman, to be good at their jobs, good at serving and proud to be Airmen and proud of their heritage,” Frey said.
Frey also had the opportunity to meet with the most recent Airman Leadership School and talk to them about their upcoming role as first line supervisors and stressed the importance of professional development courses at all levels.
“Airmen want to know what does it take to make Airmen Below the Zone,” Frey said. “Our staff sergeants and technical sergeants want to know how to become a SNCO. They want to know what more they need to do. And our master sergeants want to know how to get in that strategic mindset to make chief.”
Frey added that it’s not just the enlisted who benefit from PME, but officers as well who mentor and lead the various enlisted tiers.
“It is through professional development that they can be better and grow,” Frey said.
On the final day, Frey visited David Grant USAF Medical Center before attending the Chief Master Sergeant Recognition Ceremony.
“I can tell the Airmen are excited about what they do,” Frey said. “They have a great sense of pride and they want to stay here. Travis is a premier base and a premier command.”
