FORT EUSTIS, Va. – 160 members of Joint Task Force Civil Support (JTF-CS) deployed to EXERCISE VIBRANT RESPONSE 16 (VR 16), an annual joint training exercise May 2 through 7 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
VR 16 is a command post exercise that tests the capabilities of the federal response to meet the expectations of the nation. It provides realistic training to prepare chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) response units to integrate with civilian partners and respond to natural or manmade catastrophic CBRN events. JTF-CS headquarters and the Defense CBRN Response Force (DCRF) will be evaluated on consequence management operations in response to a simulated a CBRN event.
JTF-CS maintains the ability to get the right force and the right response with the right expertise to the incident site. The unit’s focus is to provide necessary capability as soon as possible without causing increased strain on local resources. Unit members provide a layered response capability ranging from detection and assessment of suspected CBRN incidents to robust task forces providing life-saving medical, engineering, logistic and decontamination capabilities in rapid support of civilian responders.
JTF-CS anticipates plans and integrates U.S. Northern Command CBRN operations. JTF-CS provides command and control for designated DOD specialized response forces to assist local, state, federal and tribal partners in saving lives, preventing further injury, and providing critical support to enable community recovery.
