Proud parents, anxious spouses and eager children welcomed home Marines and sailors of 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment at Del Valle Field April 23, 2016.

‘First Team’ served as part of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force-Crisis Response-Central Command 16.1. SPMAGTF-CR-CC is a well-trained crisis response unit that has the ability to project combat power over vast distances using organic aviation, logistical and ground combat assets. Marines and sailors prepared for this deployment by training aboard the Combat Center during Integrated Training Exercise 5-15.

“It’s a great day for the regiment,” said Col. William Vivian, commanding officer, 7th Marine Regiment. “1/7 did a great job while they were deployed, so we’re very excited for their homecoming. The Marines and sailors of the battalion received highly effective and realistic training prior to going overseas. They were prepared for the mission at hand and their efforts have been appreciated.”

The battalion’s involvement with SPMAGTF-CR-CC 16.1 played a part in solidifying the Marine Corps’ role as the nation’s force in readiness, able to respond to an ever-changing global environment.

“It feels wonderful to be home with my family,” said Staff Sgt. Darrell Wills, data network specialist, 1/7. “Having all the families out here helps with resiliency as Marines and sailors reintegrate.”
