Maj. Gen. Bradley A. Becker, commanding general, U.S. Army Military District of Washington joins Polly Hanson, chief of police, Amtrak Police Department for a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery April 25, 2016.

The wreath-laying ceremony was in honor of the inter-agency partnership between the Amtrak Police Department and the Military District of Washington.

“On behalf of all the Soldiers of the Military District of Washington, I’d like to thank all of our law enforcement partners for what they do every single day to keep us and our families safe,” said Becker. “We truly understand and appreciate what you all do every day to keep us safe here at home and it is comforting to know that when we are far away, that we’ve got great Americans like you taking care of our families, keeping them safe.”

“This wreath-laying ceremony was in honor of our strong inter-agency partnership with Amtrak Police, which is just one example of the strong bond between the two agencies. It further emphasizes the importance of establishing the relationships and resiliency between the military and interagency partners,” added Becker.

Amtrak police officers have the same police authority as local or state law enforcement officers within their jurisdiction. They investigate all types of crimes that occur within and around stations, trains and rights of way.
