A memorial was held for Lance Cpl. Giancarlo Goyone April 1 aboard Camp Schwab.

Goyone was born on July 25, 1991 in Taipei, Taiwan and raised in Fairfax, Virginia. He enlisted in the Marine Corps December 2012 served as an 1142, engineer equipment electrical systems technician.
Upon completion of Marine basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina, he attended Marine combat training at Camp Geiger, North Carolina and engineer equipment electrical systems technician school at Courthouse Bay, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He then reported to Facilities Engineer Division, Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations Pacific-Marine Corps Base Camp Butler Japan as a facilities engineer clerk.

“Being on this island away from family is hard.” said Cpl. Jessica Collins, a combat correspondent with H & S Bn. “We rely on those around us and they become a special family. Goyone was a part of mine.”

Those closest to Goyone remember him for his child-like glee and appreciation for the simple things in life.

“Goyone was like a brother to me,” said Cpl. Johnwilson Navarro, an electrician with Facilities Engineer Division and former roommate of Guyone. “I remember him just staying up all night on a weekend just to play StarCraft with his best friends back home in Virginia, he would laugh so hard, he’d cry. I’ve never seen such a huge smile on a person. Those are the moments I will cherish forever.”

Goyone’s humor was not limited to video games, amongst his friends he was famous for devouring humorous amounts of food despite his slight frame.

“I can confidently say the memories that will always stand out the most to his friends, are those that deal with eating,” said Lance Cpl. Michael Woodworth a crew chief with Facilities Engineer Division and close friend. “There were many times he would order and finish an absurd amount of food, and then finish everyone else’s plates as well.”

According to Woodworth, Goyone was a treasure in the form of a human being, known for putting smiles on the faces of people he came in contact with, whether it is on purpose or by simply being himself, Goyone will be forever missed and loved.

“He was an amazing friend,” said Woodworth. “I will always cherish the time I spent with him.”

Goyone’s funeral was held April 10 in his home state of Virginia.
