    III Marine Expeditionary Force   

    United States Marine Corps Pfc. Everett Hampton from Apple Hill, North Carolina, enlisted in July of 1942 serving 23 years in the Marine Corps.

    He served in Company L, 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marine Regiment, 4th Marine Division in World War II at the battle of Iwo Jima. During World War II he served in the following campaigns: Tinian, Saipan, Marshall Islands and Iwo Jima. He later served in the Korean War before retiring.
