    III Marine Expeditionary Force

United States Marine Corps Cpl. Arthur Shearer from Cincinnati, Ohio, enlisted in the Marine Corps in August, 1942, and served four years in the Marine Corps.

He served with Company C, 1st Battalion, 4th Marine Division as a 60mm mortarman. He served in the Battle of Iwo Jima at the age of 20. “I joined the Marine Corps because at the time I saw all these signs and Marines walking around and I admired them. I always said to myself if I joined the service it would be in the Marines,” said Shearer.
