OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea - The U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific-Asia ensemble Pacific Trends toured the Republic of Korea to play for local schools and orphanages around Osan and Kunsan Air Bases March 10-16.

The PACAF Band consists of full-time active duty musicians performing in the Western Pacific region in support of military and community relations objectives.

“It is the most amazing experience being in the PACAF Band,” said Senior Airman Maritzaida Amador, PACAF regional band vocalist. “We have the opportunity to connect with people no matter where they’re from or what language they speak. We can transcend those gaps with music.”

Pacific Trends performed their largest show with the Pyeongtaek Orchestra, with more than 1000 Korean children and parents in attendance.

For many of the band members, this was their first visit to the Republic of Korea, and according to Staff Sgt. Aaron Weibe, PACAF regional band guitarist, the best part about their visit was playing for the Korean children.

“Playing for the Korean kids is awesome,” said Weibe. “It’s really great to get out into the communities and foster those relationships we have with our host nation. It’s the best part about my job: interacting with people from around the world and showing a positive image of the United States Air Force.”

The PACAF Band travels over 50% of the world playing for people of all nations, and they’ve become a close-knit family in the process according to Amador.

“We have a strong connection with each other, and you can see that on-stage,” said Amador. “We feed off of each other’s energy. We try as hard as we can to have fun and get our audience engaged.”

“Performing with them shows them the other side of the Air Force, that we’re not just about planes and computers,” she added. “It’s about what we do for America and the world.”
