    218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Soldiers assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, will conduct training at the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, Louisiana in support of the Command and Control Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Response Element (C2CRE) mission from March 16 through March 24, 2016.

Approximately 130 Soldiers from HHC, 218th MEB, will support the federal mission as Task Force Operations, with subsequent Task Forces: Aviation, Signal, Medical, and Logistics. The overall mission of nearly 1,400 National Guard Soldiers from six states is to support federal, state and local agencies to help save lives, prevent injury, and provide temporary critical life support following a domestic Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or high-yield Explosive (CBRNE) incident.

During the two-week training event, HHC, 218th MEB, will complete a variety of mission assignment scenarios for movement of personnel and equipment in support of CBRNE decontamination lanes, search and rescue, debris removal and other operational tasks.

“Out of 53 State National Guard, the nation has called upon this brigade to be the lead National Guard unit for emergency response for this country,” said Col. Jeffrey A. Jones, Commander of the 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade. “The reputation of this brigade is of the highest quality and this country deserves our best.”

In preparation for JRTC, HHC, 218th MEB has participated in several training exercises at brigade headquarters and McCrady Training Center in Columbia, South Carolina. The 218th MEB will officially assume command of Task Force Operations, C2CRE-B mission in June under Task Force Headquarters of the 38th Infantry Division.
