At approximately 11:20 a.m. while conducting a barrier-emplacement mission in northeastern Baghdad, soldiers from the 4th Battalion, 64th Armored Regiment were attacked by criminals using rocket propelled grenades and small-arms fire. The MND-B soldiers returned fire and killed three criminals.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, came under attack by indirect-fire weapons and heavy machine gun fire from a vehicle in northeastern Baghdad. The soldiers returned fire and killed seven criminals.

"Our primary mission here in Iraq is to protect the Iraqi people in full partnership with the Iraqi security forces," said Lt. Col. Steve Stover, spokesman, MND-B and 4th Infantry Division. "We are working toward a sustainable environment of security and stability, while the special groups criminals are intent on sowing instability."
