FCC/C10F Civilian selected for AFCEA Women's Appreciation Award

FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. - A U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet (FCC/C10F) civilian staff member has been selected to receive the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Women's Appreciation Award.

Teresa Duvall, sustainment division head for the Navy Authorizing Official, earned the award for her contributions as a mentor to professional women, for championing the study of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), and for encouraging young women to enter the field.

"Mentoring is an investment in the future," said Duvall. "It is important for girls and young women to study all aspects of technology."

The AFCEA Women's Appreciation Award recognizes members who have gone above and beyond to further the careers of women.

"I have had some amazing mentors, both men and women, all throughout my career," said Duvall. "I believe this is a chance to give back."

Duvall will be officially presented the award at AFCEA Women's Appreciation Event on Feb. 18 at the San Diego Convention Center.

"I thought the least I could do was pay it forward to those who are coming behind me," said Duvall. "I hope the young women that I mentor, military and civilian, feel the same way."

"I can't think of anyone more deserving of this recognition," said Neal Miller, Navy Authorizing Official and Duvall's supervisor. "She's been a leader throughout her career in uniform and as a civilian, and she continues to lead and serve as an inspirational role model for both men and women with the good fortune to work with her.".

"I encourage young men and women to see the success in the field; the possibilities are endless," said Duvall. "We need the best and brightest to support our global cyber mission."

U.S. Fleet Cyber Command serves as the Navy component command to U.S. Strategic Command and U.S. Cyber Command, and the Navy's Service Cryptologic Component commander under the National Security Agency/Central Security Service. Fleet Cyber Command also reports directly to the Chief of Naval Operations as an Echelon II command.

U.S. 10th Fleet is the operational arm of Fleet Cyber Command and executes its mission through a task force structure similar to other warfare commanders.
