WIESBADEN, Germany - Patrick J. Murphy, the acting Secretary of the Army, arrived in Germany for a two-day trip primarily focusing on visiting with Soldiers stationed in the area, Feb. 7.

Murphy was greeted by an entourage of senior Soldiers and Airmen on Ramstein Air Base’s flight line in the evening.

While the group moved to various locations on the base, the highlight of the evening began close to midnight at the USO at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center installation, which is minutes away from the airfield.

Murphy grabbed a seat with dozens of service members to watch the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos battle it out for the Super Bowl 50 championship title.

An elaborate set up by the USO’s volunteer staff was not unnoticed by Murphy. He handed out his personal coin to each member as a token of appreciation.

The visit wrapped up with a tour the next morning at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center where Murphy met with patients receiving treatment at the hospital, as well as primary staff members.

“I used to be stationed here in Baumholder many years ago, so it is great to be back here and to be here at Landstuhl (Regional) Medical Center,” Murphy said. “It is the largest medical center outside of the continental United States, and (it is good to) see the great work that we are doing here to help treat our retirees, our Soldiers and our NATO allies.”

The patients took the opportunity to boast about the excellent treatment they had been receiving, saying they were grateful to be among top-notch staff.
