MALMSTROM AIR FORCE BASE, Mont. - The 341st Comptroller Squadron finance office at Malmstrom Air Force Base has recently implemented a mobile finance team. The goal: to bring convenience and peace of mind to Team Malmstrom members who are in need of quick service.

“Mobile finance is intended to be a program that extends our CPTS services to locations outside our customer service lobby,” said 2nd Lt. Scott McGillivray, 341st CPTS financial services officer. “It is meant to provide convenience to customers and eliminate unnecessary trips, saving time and energy for everyone.

“We are similar to organizations that set up help desks, just like the ones at the Base Exchange and Commissary,” he continued. “We want to reach out to members without interrupting schedules.”

The first goal of the mobile financial team is to gain more community involvement. For the office, it is also an opportunity to give Airmen who would otherwise be waiting for customers behind a desk a chance to get out and interact with military members on location.

The biggest challenge the mobile finance team faces is wireless internet not being readily available at every location. According to the finance team, the challenges can be overcome and they are in the process of working them out.

“The great part about mobile finance is that theoretically we can go anywhere on base and support a number of different units and members,” said McGillivray. “However, right now we are limited to the locations where there is a strong internet connection.”

According to McGillivray, the idea was originally brought up by Maj. La Tonya Kelly, 341st CPTS commander, because of similar program’s success at other bases. Their belief is that it can also operate successfully here at Malmstrom and offer Airmen drastic time-saving support.

“The real benefits come down to convenience and peace of mind,” said McGillivray. “If we as finance specialists can take one extra step to better serve our customers at their convenience, members will better be able to focus on the mission.”

Currently, the mobile finance team is in its test phase and is aiming to offer services at the Malmstrom Fitness Center, the headquarters building and the 819th RED HORSE squadron to start.

“As a team, we take pride in our customer service,” said McGillivray. “It is our job to put members first and this is just one more step in the direction of that vision. I am proud of my team members who are working hard to ensure these steps are taken.”
