    U.S. Special Operations Command

MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE - Congressman Rodney P. Frelinghuysen, Chairman of the Homeland Security and Defense Committee, visited U.S. Special Operations Command Jan. 20 and was greeted by Army Gen. Joseph Votel, USSOCOM commander.

The Chairman is from New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District and also a senior member on the House Appropriations Committee.

Frelinghuysen received briefings on the function of USSOCOM’s Wargame Center, USSOCOM’s Components and Theater Special Operations Command briefs, and the role of Special Operations Forces Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics supporting the warfighter.

Additionally, Frelinghuysen was briefed on the capabilities of Military Information Support Operations in Eastern Europe.

USSOCOM is nearly 70,000 strong and the command has people in approximately 85 countries around the world.

USSOCOM’s mission is to support Global Combatant Commanders (GCCs) by synchronizing the planning of Special Operations and provides Special Operations Forces (SOF) to support persistent, networked and distributed GCC operations in order to protect and advance our Nation's interests.

SOF provides strategic options for our national leaders and the GCCs we support through a Global Network that fully integrates our military, interagency and international partners.

The SOF Enterprise is a collection of military and civilian professionals with a reputation and a bias for collective excellence - focused on achieving superior results against our Nation's most complex, high risk challenges.

SOF are known as the "Quiet Professionals" and the creed best describes our SOF ethic and culture. USSOCOM is a values-based organization - always mindful our personal and professional conduct reflects not only on ourselves but on our Nation. The command focuses on contributing to the mission at hand and being a well-integrated part of the team -- unconcerned with who gets the credit and recognizing that much of what we do will remain in the shadows.
