ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The 2011 Las Conchas Wildfire in northern New Mexico, one of New Mexico’s worst fires ever, left behind years of recovery work, especially for the Santa Clara Pueblo, N.M.
To counter this, the Albuquerque District Corps of Engineers is involved in efforts helping to protect the pueblo from future flooding and debris runoff. This project is just one of several ways the District works with many Native American tribes to address water resource challenges and other emergency management issues. Because of Corps’ experiences in the Albuquerque District, its team has recently been recognized by USACE as a center of expertise working in Indian Country.
