SASEBO, Japan - “We support the flight deck and all air operations,” said Aviation Support Equipment Technician 3rd Class Anthony Visconti who works for the Aviation Intermediate Maintenance Division (AIMD) aboard the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6).

The division plays a critical role in maintaining support equipment for flight operations. “We make sure aircraft get started,” said Visconti. “Squadrons check out our equipment, hook it up to their aircraft and the aircraft starts running.”

Visconti was selected as Bonhomme Richard’s Sailor of the Week for his hard work and value to the division.

“He’s the flight deck troubleshooter,” said Aviation Support Technician 2nd Class Blake Williamson, Visconti’s supervisor. “If something requires fixing on the flight deck, he fixes it. He is our ‘go to’ technician.”

The weight of Visconti’s responsibility resonates from the Air Department to the skipper, explains Williamson. “It’s a big responsibility for a 3rd class and he was an airman when he started.”

Visconti looks forward to increased responsibility in his department.

“I want to keep on advancing,” said Visconti. “I earned 3rd class. I’ll move on to 2nd class and I’ll just keep moving forward within my rate.”

Even though Visconti was chosen because his outstanding work, he remains modest about his accomplishments.

“To be honest, I’m just doing what I’m supposed to be doing at all times,” said Visconti.

For some, Sailor of the Week can be a big deal, but Visconti views it differently.

“It’s not that big of a deal to me,” said Visconti. “It’s not like I go out of my way to try to get Sailor of the week or the month or the year. I just focus on my job and focus on doing it well.”

Visconti’s ability to handle a challenging job impressed his supervisor.

“There are times when he’d come in on the weekend and I didn’t have to tell him to do it. He just did it,” said Williamson.

Visconti’s hard work and dedication to his department and the command resulted in his much-deserved recognition.

Visconti grew up in Chicago and his parents, Doreen and Dominic Visconti, reside in Covington, Louisiana. He has been in the Navy for three years and looks forward to many more.
