    3rd Combat Aviation Brigade

HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – The Knighthawks of 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade held a change of responsibility ceremony on Hunter Army Airfield Jan. 12.

The Knighthawk battalion welcomed in new Command Sgt. Maj. Jason K. Stenbak and bid farewell to outgoing “Knighthawk 7” Command Sgt. Maj. Owen H. Simmons.

The Knighthawk battalion commander, Lt. Col. Jason L. West, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, spoke about his relationship with the outgoing senior enlisted advisor.

“When I came to the Knighthawks back in October, Command Sgt. Maj. Simmons was one of the first to reach out to me,” West said. “I was immediately impressed with his professionalism and depth of knowledge about the Soldiers and families within the Knighthawk battalion. He has been nothing short of composed, humble and steady. He was exactly the type of leader all commanders long for.”

Simmons originally enlisted in the Army in 1988, and said he is ready to join the ranks of the retired. Though the temperature in Savannah was only a few degrees above freezing, Simmons hinted at what sort of clothes you should expect to see him wearing in the future.

“Shorts and flip-flops would not be a good call today, but that’s what you can expect me to be wearing in the future,” Simmons said. “Today is a little bittersweet because this is the last time I will be addressing Soldiers as I finalize my transition from the Army into retirement.”

Stenbak is a native of Tioga, North Dakota, and a 25-year veteran of the Army.

“To the great Soldiers of this battalion, to you I pledge my 100 percent commitment to providing you the best leadership that I am capable of,” Stenbak said. “This is an outstanding battalion, and I am extremely humble, proud and honored to have been selected as your command sergeant major.”
