ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. - If you’re ever in need of finding a volunteer opportunity, look no further.
Ellsworth’s Airman and Family Readiness Center tracks the current volunteer opportunities and contact information of local charities on the Ellsworth Volunteers website, providing Airmen, families and retirees with a single location to find ways to get involved with the community.
The website also provides links to several agencies in the local area.
“We collaborate with the other agencies on and off base to see if they need volunteers,” said Kimberly Geffre, 28th Force Support Squadron worklife specialist. “This site helps get those opportunities out to people.”
Targeted to all Air Force members, retirees and families, the site can be accessed to anyone to see what is available.
“Volunteering provides people with an opportunity to connect with their community,” Geffre explained. “It builds that sense of community that many Airmen might be missing while away from home.”
Geffre added volunteering is not just an enlisted performance report builder and it is important from the social aspect, helping people feel more settled into the community.
“Volunteering enhances your life,” Geffre said. “It’s a good way to expand your ‘whole person concept’ and can help reveal what you are passionate about and lead to job opportunities.”
Additionally, Geffre explained South Dakota is ranked ninth in the nation in amount of volunteers, and that she encourages everyone to get involved.
