RIVERSIDE, Calif. - On a crisp and beautiful Sunday morning, Jan. 10, 2016, at March Air Reserve Base the 304th Sustainment Brigade (Special Troops Battalion) conduct a mobilization ceremony to formally say farewell to the families of the soldiers deploying on a year long deployment to Fort Bliss, Texas. The primary task of this mission will be to train incoming individual deployers and redeployers for their upcoming tours overseas. CONUS (The Continental United States) Replacement Center or CRC trains in a variety of ways. CRC training includes classes on countering improvised explosive devices, to first aid, to Humvee roll over training, to a simulated weapons course.
Staff Sgt. Saira Ramirez a noncommissioned officer with the 304th expressed her excitement about the upcoming deployment, “We’ll be validating individuals, contractors, and DOD civilians who will be deploying to the many missions around the world. I believe this is a great mission, it gives our Soldiers a chance to really work on our craft and at the same time train people to go overseas. I love this mission!”
Maj. Gen. Mark W. Palzer, the commanding general of the 79th Sustainment Support Command discussed the upcoming deployment with the soldiers, “You have a unique mission, which not many can say they’ve done. You will be evaluating the readiness, equipping and training deploying soldiers. I’ve done this mission before and this is absolutely critical.”
The Soldiers listened intently as they sat with their families, knowing they will be separated for the next 12 months. The incoming Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Blaine A. White spoke to the importance of the mission and the support of families. “We are playing an important role in protecting and defending this nation, a nation that allows its citizens to remain free and I will do everything in power to make sure we have a successful mission. It’s very meaningful to see all these soldiers here with their families, we’re all vested in this mission and seeing it through to the end.”
