AL UDEID AIR BASE, Qatar - Female military members from Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar competed in a three-on-three basketball tournament, Jan. 2 at the Al Gharafa Multi-Purpose Hall, Doha.

Seven teams competed in the tournament with two coming from AUAB. Both teams played four games and each finished with two wins and two losses. Points earned in every game were tallied to determine which teams would make it to the finals. Neither one of the AUAB teams accumulated enough points to advance to the finals.

The two teams remained in good spirits despite their loses and three players shared their thoughts on the tournament.

“When we played basketball we represented something bigger. We put our best foot forward, kept an open mind and had fun,” said Staff Sgt. Siera Wilson, U.S. Central Command joint security office non-commissioned officer in charge and team captain.

“It’s a great experience and a good opportunity to go off base, and even though our team did not practice with each other on a regular basis, I enjoyed the camaraderie,” she said.

“This was the first tournament I played here,” said Senior Airman Sarah Lowther, 816th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron loadmaster. “It was fun and I had a blast playing against different people.”

“It’s always exciting when you know people and you can develop that chemistry with people who make it interesting,” said Senior Airman Erica Ealy, 379th Expeditionary Force Support Squadron Coalition Compound lodging front desk clerk. “My heart hurts that we could not bring home the win, but we have developed great chemistry over time.”
