ST. PAUL, Minn. - The 133rd Airlift Wing held its annual Wing Awards Ceremony in the south hangar celebrating the Outstanding Airmen of the Year and the overall achievements of the wing in St. Paul, Minn. Dec. 12, 2015.
The 133rd Airlift Wing awards ceremony is typically held in the north hanger. However, due to the full renovation project taking place at that location it was moved to the south hanger. Nevertheless, the ceremony commenced without delay.
Airmen from around the wing and distinguished guests came together to celebrate the Outstanding Airmen of the Year and the achievements of the wing. Honoring exceptional airmen and achievements inspires a legacy of excellence amongst an ever growing population of young airmen.
Brig. Gen. David Hamlar, Minnesota National Guard's Assistant Adjutant General (Air), greeted the 133rd Airlift Wing by stating “It is good to be home.” He then went on to discuss the ongoing diversity and inclusion initiatives that were made by the 133rdAirlift Wing and the Minnesota National Guard.
“What I am particularly proud for the wings, both here and the 148th Fighter Wing are their efforts towards diversity and inclusion.” said Hamlar.
The Outstanding Airmen of the Year were Senior Non Commissioned Officer of the year Senior Master Sgt. Aaron Siek of the 109th Operations Group, NCO of the Year Tech. Sgt. Neil Bacon of the 133rd Logistics Readiness Squadron, Airman of the Year Senior Airman Jose Carrera of the 210th Engineering Installation Squadron, and First Sergeant of the Year Master Sgt. Heather Klein of the 133rd Medical Group.
These airmen have excelled in managing resources, improving the unit, leading people, and executing the mission. They will now go on to compete at a national level. The ceremony also recognized many other remarkable individuals within the wing that received national and local awards.
Col. Jim Johnson, 133rd Airlift Wing Commander, presented the new 133rd Airlift Wing Gopher Flight Plan that was recently presented and communicated to airmen around the base. The “Flight Plan” helps summarize the overall command message for 2015. As mentioned earlier, the Outstanding Airmen of Year encompass and demonstrate many, if not all, of the key points laid out in the plan.
“Building a team that is powered by innovative and inclusive resilient airmen dedicated to the core values to optimize our mission.” said Johnson.
This will be the last Wing Award Ceremony with Col. Johnson acting as the 133rd Airlift Commander. His leadership and dedication to leaving the wing better place than he found it is reflected in the overall accomplishments of the wing and its members serving under his command. Johnson concluded the ceremony, as he has done for the past few years, by sharing a video of his holiday decorations depicting a C-130 that he takes pride displaying in his front lawn.
