MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C.- The 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Gary L. Thomas, hit the field and joined his Marines on a frigid December morning challenging the cold and the Marine Corps’ Combat Fitness Test at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Dec. 4.
The CFT is an annual requirement for all Marines to assess their physical capacity in a broad spectrum of combat-related tasks. Combat readiness is a Marine Corps-wide standard that even the Commandant of the Marine Corps must follow.
"We are all created equal in the Marine Corps' eyes,” said Sgt. Maj. Richard Thresher, the 2nd MAW sergeant major. "Whether you are a major general, sergeant major, or a lance corporal, standards are standards and no one gets a pass - it's what makes us Marines.”
Marines with 2nd MAW maintain their combat readiness year-round in order to provide continuous support to the Marine Air-Ground Task Force. The high standards Marines are placed under ensure they are all fully capable of answering the call of duty in a moment’s notice.
"Thanks General for the leadership by example ... see you on the PFT course in January," Thresher added.
