CEBU, Philippines – Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 3 Construction Civic Action Detail (CCAD) Cebu, played a game of basketball against a local team from Balamban at a community center in Cebu, Philippines, Oct. 24.
The event was one of many activities that the Seabees participated with the community to strengthen its relationship.
Members from all over the community, including local government officials, teachers and school administrators attended the game.
The game featured a showcase of the height and size of the Seabees against the quickness and shooting abilities of the local team.
“Playing this game was a tremendous experience for all of us,” said Builder 3rd Class Derrick Fetes. “The camaraderie and building of lasting relationships with the local community is a huge part of our mission and this was an experience we won’t forget.”
The three points shooting eventually led to the defeat of the Seabees, but in the end it was more about the relationship building and community involvement.
After the game, members of the community posed for a picture with the Seabees and hosted a traditional Filipino dinner to continued learning more about each other’s culture.
NMCB 3 CCAD's mission is to execute engineering civic assistance projects, conduct skills exchanges with the host nation, and perform community relations events to help enhance shared capabilities and maintain relationships.
