CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea - During the fall, families will be preparing for Thanksgiving, where moments of quality time, laughter, good food and reasons to be thankful will be shared.

Talon dining facilities on Camp Humphreys prepared for the holiday season by serving Thanksgiving. Following the U.S Army and Talon tradition, unit leaders dressed in their Army service oniform with sanitary gloves and chef hats and served the Thanksgiving meal to their Soldiers and families.

Sgt. Maj. Estevan Sotorosado, the brigade command sergeant major of 2nd CAB, 2nd Infantry Division, served turkey.

“Serving meals to our Soldiers means that we, as Talon Brigade leaders, appreciate and respect our hard working Soldiers in Korea,” said Sotorosado. "Thanksgiving means the time where Soldiers can sit around, put work to the side, and enjoy a really good meal with family and friends."

"Thanksgiving is a holiday that people usually celebrate with Family and friends. However, many service members cannot get home to see their families, so the DFAC serves a traditional Thanksgiving meal during the holiday,” said Staff Sgt. Brooks, a dining facility noncommissioned officer in charge from 602nd Aviation Support Battalion, 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.

"Preparing for this big occasion every year is no easy task, as much planning and preparation takes place several months prior to make this event successful,” said Brooks.

Brooks said that thousands of products, such as meats, vegetables, sauces, breads, deserts, along with miscellaneous items, such as candy and nuts, are first ordered, and then shipped to post prior to distributing to each dining facility.

"It's a great opportunity to provide this kind of meal for Soldiers that do stay home for the holidays and give them a kind of place to confide so they do not feel alone," said Pvt. 2nd Class Abigail Gernandez, a food service specialist for Headquarters Support Company, 602nd ASB, 2nd CAB. "It's an honor to serve the family members and Soldiers with home cooked meal that would make them reminisce about their families back home."

"It's all about the families and Soldiers," said Pvt. 2nd Class Richard Hill, a food service specialist for HSC, 602nd ASB, 2nd CAB. "It's about giving them an experience that would be similar to what they would have at home."

Brig. Gen. John R. Evans, deputy commanding general of the 2nd Infantry Division, complemented on the efforts of the Talon DFAC.

“I have been to many DFACs today, but the Talon DFAC is where I will eat because it is the best DFAC,” said Evans.
