AL UDEID AIR BASE, Qatar - As Bikes Over Baghdad performed their show at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, Nov. 22 service members cheered and roared in applause.
The group, which started in 2009, tours military bases around the world performing high-energy stunt shows. During their performance, they performed a wide variety of tricks including several different jumps, flips and one performer even jumped his bike over 11 people.
Senior Airman Kara Schulz, 379th Expeditionary Force Support Squadron fitness specialist, volunteered to lie on the ground while one of the members of Bikes Over Baghdad flew through the air and right over her.
“The show was amazing, these guys are awesome,” Schulz said. “I hope they come back 100 more times.”
Schulz was also selected by the group to receive a free black and teal Helio BMX bike.
Tech. Sgt. Benjamin Charest, 379th Expeditionary Logistical Readiness Squadron, said he enjoyed the performance and joined hundreds of service members after the show to get autographs from the riders.
“It was an awesome show and the first time I’ve seen them perform,” Charest said. “Shows like this really boost morale.”
Bikes Over Baghdad performed a total of eight shows in Iraq and Kuwait before making the trip to AUAB.
Rob Darden, from Concord, California, has been a BMX rider for 23 years; however, this is his first tour as a member of Bikes Over Baghdad. He said he enjoys entertaining America’s military men and women.
“Entertaining the troops is the best thing I’ve ever done,” Darden said. “Meeting service members and shaking their hands; that’s what it’s all about.”
The show was organized by Armed Forces Entertainment and featured nine of the world’s best BMX riders.
