NAVAL STATION ROTA, Spain - Rota Naval Base hosted Exercise MAGRE-15 with participation of EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Units from U.S., Germany and Spain; namely the U.S. Navy EODMU-8, the German "Minentaucher CDT," and the Spanish navy Cadiz Diving Unit and MCM divers from Cartagena.

During the exercise, both surface and underwater EOD operations were conducted simulating real situations. Land drills included clearance of IED (Improvised Explosive Devices) like the ones found in Afghanistan. Underwater drills contemplated disposal of limpet bombs.

Spanish participating units included two F-80 frigates: "Numancia" and "Reina Sofía," and helicopters from the 5th Aircraft Squadron to insert EOD personnel.

The exercise was designed to enhance the training level of EOD technicians and implement common C-IED (conventional and improvised explosive devices) tactics and procedures.
