    1st Mission Support Command

PONCE, Puerto Rico - Soldiers of the 1st Mission Support Command (MSC) celebrated an evening of legacy and tradition during the 2015 Military Ball at the Hilton Ponce Golf & Casino Resort in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Nov. 21, 2015. Soldiers proudly donned their uniforms and filed in with their dates. The evening consisted of a cocktail hour, professional photography and dancing.

The official portion of the event included a few words from Maj. Gen. Luis R. Visot, Chief of Staff of U.S. Army Reserve Command. Visot expressed how humbled and honored he was to be a part of the event and to be in Ponce. “When I was asked to speak, I thought about what I wanted you to walk away with, after I walked away,” said Visot.

“What I want share with you is something that I use that helps provide me with a sense of pride and humility. I strongly believe these four forces, four questions, give you a sense of purpose in life. You should ask yourself: 1) What guides you in life? 2) What drives you? 3) What inspires you? 4) Who loves you?” These questions all make you think about why you do what you do and instills pride in yourself.

Brig. Gen. Jose R. Burgos, 1st MSC Commanding General, presented Visot with a small memento of appreciation.

Burgos highlighted the commands many accomplishments during the previous fiscal year and thanked everyone for attending and being part of the celebration. He also mentioned how one Sgt. used social media to make one of his dreams come true. With a loud applause from the audience, he acknowledged Sgt. Isaac Toyos and his date Ms. Monica Puig.

Toyos summoned up the courage to invite his celebrity crush to the ball via a video on Facebook and she accepted his invitation through Twitter. He was very excited to see that she accepted his proposal and agreed to attend the military ball. “There is a generation in Puerto Rico that doesn’t have many role models, people that our youth can see as examples. I believe that she is one of the few that can inspire our youth to strive for something more,” said Toyos.

Puig is a Puerto Rican tennis player. She has won one singles title on the Women’s Tennis Association tour and six singles titles on the ITF circuit in her career. After her evening at the ball, Puig posted photos of herself and Toyos on Twitter and Instagram, thanking him for an unforgettable night.
