IWAKUNI, Japan - Marines and sailors from Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron participated in a Marine Corps birthday relay run at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Nov. 9-10, 2015.
Approximately 80 participants ran three miles each in a 20 hour period to culminate a total of 237 miles before the squadron commanding officer and sergeant major led the final three miles in a celebratory formation run with squadron service members.
“The meaning of this run is to build camaraderie, esprit de corps and ultimately to commemorate the Marine Corps’ birthday,” said Pfc. Klayton Inmon, personnel administration clerk at the Installation Personnel Administration Center outbound management branch.
The run provided participants an opportunity to give a piece of themselves in honor of the Marine Corp’s long, illustrious existence.
“Being a part of this made me feel honored,” said Staff Sgt. David Pagan, training chief with H&HS and event coordinator. “I’m glad to be a part of this event. “It celebrates the Marine Corps – something I love.”
Bystanders shouted words of encouragement as the Marines and sailors jogged by.
Pagan said he hopes events like this will continue annually and that more opportunities to gather service members together arise in the future.
