EVERETT, Wash. - Naval Station Everett (NSE) Sailors volunteered their time at the 10th Annual Veterans Day United Services Organization’s (USO) dance at the Carl Gipson Senior Center in Everett, Nov. 11.

The event included remarks from Ray Stephanson, mayor of Everett; Capt. Mark Lakamp, commanding officer, NSE; Congressman Rick Larsen; state Sen. John McCoy and Rep. Mike Sells.

The presentation of the missing in action-prisoner of war table, which was centered in the room in remembrance of all service members who have yet to make it home, started off the day’s recognition.

All speakers displayed gratitude for our troops and thanked all veterans for their service.

“It’s important to support the community,” said Lakamp. “Especially to our veterans from the WWII, Korea and Vietnam eras. Their sacrifices and dedication to their country have not and will not be forgotten about.”

NSE Command Master Chief Brian Wojcicki attended the event along with Lakamp.

“It’s great to see veterans still around from WWII and I talked to a few Pearl Harbor survivors,” said Wojcicki. “They have the full spectrum of all engagements.”

Colors were presented by Everett High School’s Naval Reserve Officers' Training Corps as the national anthem was performed by the Route 66 Swing Band Orchestra.

“It is such a great event and it has been for the past 10 years,” said Deb Loughrey-Johnson, director, Carl Gipson Senior Center of Everett and event coordinator. “It’s also nice to see the different generations of military personnel get together, share stories and have a great time.”

More than 200 retired military, civilians and active duty service members were in attendance.
