LOS ANGELES - "No more, 'I don't want to know what's going on in my Soldier's life.' That Soldier may not be there the next Battle Drill because we didn't care. It's not being nosy it's being responsible." Linda Talley, wife of Lt. Gen. Jeffrey W. Talley, Chief of Army Reserve and Commanding General, United States Army Reserve Command, spoke to a large group of 311th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) Reserve Soldiers, their families and Army civilian employees during her visit to the West Los Angeles Army Reserve Center about what it means to be part of the Army Reserve Family, Nov. 9, 2015.
Talley is passionate about the Family Readiness Group program. She highlighted several important factors to help strengthen families, including physical fitness, social media, civilian jobs and the Fort Family Outreach program.
"Make sure your Soldiers are ok. We're coming up on the holidays and it can be hard for some families. Think about those who may be hurting and reach out to them so they know we care and we are a family," she said.
At the end of Talley's dialogue, she took questions from the group on a range of topics. Brig. Gen. David Elwell, Commanding General, 311th ESC started off the questions and Talley thoughtfully answered each one. Talley emphasized, "If you need help we're here and the best way to get support is through our website and number for Fort Family. If you're struggling to find a job, homeless, having issues with your family, call!"
The Fort Family Outreach and Support is a resource that is available to Soldiers and their families 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365-days a year. Some of the ways Fort Family can help is with temporary housing, emergency funds, disaster relief, debt management, emergency home repair, separation or coping issues as well as a range of other family related issues. Talley's impassioned discourse ended with the group giving her standing ovation, "We need to take care of our family and each other."
